Principal’s Message

Fakaalofa lahi atu,
I hope this newsletter finds you all well and thriving in Level 1. The weather is starting to cool down and daylight savings has ended over this Easter break.
The children are working hard on their Inquiry learning projects to BEAUTIFY our school. The student council have been providing student voice for the playground plans and this should be completed by the end of June. Our juniors will be over the moon with their new playground. We will need volunteers for a working bee to help construct the playground boxing and lay the bark, just like we did at Rosella road. So please let Grace know your availability when its time.

Thank you to those of our parents who supported the IDEATION session at The Cause Collective last Friday, 19th March. We will be scaling our Whanau programmes into the wider community focusing on three Early Childhood centres and working with some social services.

It has been delightful watching our children grow and develop in their learning and behaviour this year. The senior students Year 7 & 8 are making leaps and bounds as they prepare for High School. If you haven’t already decided on High schools for your year 8 children, feel free to discuss this with Ms Sifaheone, Ms Taufelila or Ms Grace.

PRINCIPAL AWARDS:
The following students have worked hard to receive Principal Awards:
R.J Apollo- for using initiative and managing his learning well.
Knolan Tapuosi- for settling in well to the Rise UP way.
Caleb Foley-for critical thinking during playground planning.
Neveah Letiu-for good leadership and student voice during Council meetings.

With the Easter break over we hope you took some time to share the love of Jesus with your family and friends. Our school is living proof that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.
Gods richest blessings,
Sita Selupe

Project Wy Leadership Programme

Project Wy is a mentoring programme for high calibre South Auckland students and their families teaching life-skills and leadership. Rise UP Academy was fortunate to be selected as one of the schools to take part.

The Project Wy programme started last Thursday  for our selected families and boy has it been a NEW experience for most families getting up at the crack of dawn to take your child to a 6am training at Toia Rec Centre in Otahuhu on a Thursday morning but YOU DID GREAT! Here are some pictures from the Thursday morning training sessions. We have 4.5 weeks to go until our goal – 10km marathon whanau KIA KAHA!

WHANAU NOTICES

HEARTS & MINDS:

Thank you to our parents who have been attending the Hearts & Minds programme. When a learner has a full love tank, their ability to learn is enhanced.
Take your child/ children on a ‘date’. It does not need to be expensive. Love = T.I.M.E.

Just a reminder as part of our special character we have a declaration of commitment in which any new whanau who would like to enrol their child to Rise UP Academy will need to complete the Hearts & Minds programme. We believe this programme equips parents with the tools that will help set up their child for learning and it also helps parents understand our mission statement ‘when you enrol your child you enrol your whanau’. Parents if you know of friends and family who would like to enrol their child in 2022 then they will need to register for the Hearts & Minds this year. Our Hearts & Minds programme is delivered only in Term 1 & 2 this year.

SUMMER SCHOOL UNIFORM

HATS are now compulsory in Term 1 as it’s a great way to protect your child’s hair, eyes and skin from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. No hat means no playing on the field so please ensure your child brings a hat to school.
In Term 1 we are back in shorts or skorts however your child may still wear long PLAIN BLACK pants/tracks if they would like to. Plain black shorts may be purchased from Kmart, The warehouse or Postie Plus from $5-14

WATER BOTTLES

Water bottles are a MUST! Although we have the water fountains at school we also encourage our children to bring water bottles to school because this prevents them having to leave the classroom when they are thirsty but can have a water bottle inside the classroom.

SICK CHILDREN/ATTENDANCE

If your child is unwell please keep them at home. If your child has these symptoms for COVID-19 it is important that they get seen by a Doctor:
• New/worsening cough
• Fever (at least 38)
• Shortness of breath
• Sore throat
• Sneezing and runny nose
• Temporary loss of smell
If your child is away for 1 or 2 consecutive days we just need to be advised via phone call/text or email however if they are away 3 consecutive days they must
provide a medical certificate. If they have been tested for COVID-19 please keep
them at home until they have received their test results back—negative.
