Principal’s Message

Talofa lava
Our staff, students and whanau have kicked into gear at Level 2 onsite and its full steam ahead with learning programmes and whanau programmes. Going in and out of Lockdown levels has been challenging so thank you for your support and staying in contact with us at school.
The Education review office visited the school during the week of 22nd-25th March and provided constructive feedback regarding our Readiness public report. This will be available in the next month for public review.
The Hearts & Minds programme continues with our new enrolments for 2021 and we have a growing waiting list. If you would like a refresher for any of the sessions as you will find it helpful in the event of Level 3, then contact Grace/Cecily to join. It’s very encouraging to see a new round of parents joining the Rise UP waka and setting their tamariki up for success in learning from home.
We have an important IDEATION SESSION on Friday 19th March at 9am with The Cause Collective to look at sharing our Rise UP Whanau engagement model with the wider community. We have invited 8 whanau to attend and plan with our stakeholders so this is a Gentle reminder of the date. Please uplift the day in prayer.
Keep safe,
Sita Selupe

Parent Partnership Meeting

This year hasn’t been a good start for all our Rise UP whanau and the unpredicted lockdowns, but Praise the Lord we’re still able to continue with our Parent Partnership Meetings with your children. Thank you to all our parents who attended and rescheduled their child’s Parent interviews based on their Goals. The children did a fantastic job with reading their Goals and understanding what next steps are to be taken to achieve their SMART goals.

We had a total of 90% parent attendance.

These PPM Meetings are very important for us to ensure parents are aware of their child’s learning goals and what level of the curriculum they are at. Please if you didn’t attend the meeting we would appreciate it if you could please arrange another time with your child’s classroom teacher and come along your child’s learning journey.

Pacific Kids Learning

Pacific Kids’ Learning (PKL) have been working voluntarily in the digital space for many years, having identified the lack of online resources for young, Pacific children. With the help and support of the Ministry of Education they have fully funded the PKL Digital Stories Project. In these early stages, they aim to share the Digital Stories Project with 50 young Pacific learners from schools across South Auckland and fortunately for us here at Rise UP, Room 4 and Mrs Faga have the opportunity to participate in this project. The purpose of the PKL project is to provide a design-thinking space for young Pacific learners, where they will be inspired by their cultures, moved by their music, enlightened by their ancestor’s histories and led by their indigenous languages.

Click on the links below and have a look back at our Pacific Digital Stories workshop the week before Level 3 lockdown with some of the partner schools and then the 2nd link of our students singing in class last week. Just look at those smiles! At PKL, they provide a safe space where our kids feel confident in creating stories that represent them and our future! You will recognise Nainz Tupa’i who helps with this programme.

Whanau Notices

Hearts & Minds

Kia Ora whanau! As part of our special character we have a declaration of commitment in which any new whanau who would like to enrol their child to Rise UP Academy will need to complete the Hearts & Minds programme. We believe this programme equips parents with the tools that will help set up their child for learning and it also helps parents understand our mission statement ‘when you enrol your child you enrol your whanau’. Parents if you know of friends and family who would like to enrol their child in 2022 then they will need to register for the Hearts & Minds this year. Our Hearts & Minds programme is delivered only in Term 1 & 2 this year. Hearts & Minds starts next Wednesday 17th February 6:15pm-8.30pm.

Path Plan Sessions

Whanau the path plan timetables have been emailed out to you please book in a time for this term to complete the path plan. Also PLEASE parents we have Andrew working part time on our programmes so we would appreciate not having to cancel any path plan sessions that have been booked unless it is an emergency or please let us know in advance so that we can book in another whanau.

Summer School Uniform

Autumn is here however we are still in Term 1 which means our students are still to wear their black shorts and school shirts. They are to bring a hat so they can play on the field and for extra protection from the sun. If your child does not bring a hat to school they will need to remain on he deck during the lunch break.

Water bottles

It is very important that students bring their own clearly labelled water bottles to school. This means if they would like a drink in class they can do so without leaving the classroom. This also helps avoid cross contamination at the drinking fountain if a child has accidentally ‘lipped’ the water fountain.

Unwell Children

A gentle reminder that if your child is unwell, not necessarily just cold and flu symptoms but anything from body aches – tummy aches these need to be checked out by your GP or they must stay at home until they have fully recovered. If your child is absent due to sickness please contact the office 092768727, text 0224194988 or you can fill a absence form here on the website.

Visiting Rise UP Academy

Please ensure if you are just popping in or attending a meeting on site at RUA you will need to scan the QR code or manually enter it on the COVID Tracer app. You will find these codes around the school.
