Principal’s Message

Tena koutou katoa,
Spring is well and truly in the air as we end term 3. Our akonga and kaiako are well and truly ready for a break as this term has seen leaps and bounds in our Structured Literacy approach at Rise UP. The month of August saw 56 per cent of our students attending school 90% of the time. Lets aim for 80 per cent attendance in Term 4 as the weather gets warmer.

Congratulations to our new Board of Trustees for 2025-2028. We welcomed our new staff representative Avinesh Narayan, and our two new parent representatives Albert Scott and Vaepai Titimanu.

We are taking enrolments for 2026 at the moment. We also appreciate if you could contact the office for siblings or if you will be moving to another school next year. This will help us fill spaces this year, plan class lists and whanau orientation accordingly.

The term 4 dates are set with another line up of wonderful learning experiences and celebrations with our tamariki. Check out the dates and updates in our newsletter and most of all have a fabulous break with your whanau. Thank you for all your support and prayers for our school.

Blessings,
Sita Selupe MNZM
Principal

The Calendar

Term 3: In the Classroom

Room 1

This term, our Room 1 learners are diving into an exciting programme of inquiry, discovery, and growth. In Inquiry this term we have been looking at Technological advancements through the ages and have been exploring Our Future, looking at how innovation and how new ideas can shape the world we live in. Excellent research and presentation skills have been developed through the term.

In P.E., we have worked on building teamwork, strategy, and fitness through the traditional Māori game Ki-o-Rahi which has been a class favourite during P.E. lessons and lunctimes. Not only has physical fitness been a term focus but we have been able to scaffold problem-solving, cultural understanding and fair play.

In Mathematics, our focus has been on strengthening number knowledge and problem-solving through multiplication, percentages, fractions, and decimals. We have seen a lot of progress in this area which has been pleasing.

Students have developed strong reading and writing skills through the Structured Literacy approach. Room 1 has learnt to craft both explanations and narratives, while also building fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills in reading.

Together, we are learning to rise up as confident, creative, and connected learners who are ready to take on new challenges. Bring on Term 4

Have a great holiday and God Bless Room 1 and Rise Up whanau.

John ‘Ofanoa

Room 2

What a wonderful term it has been for Room 2! Our students have been busy learning,
exploring, and creating, and we are so proud of their efforts and achievements.

Literacy and Numeracy
This term, structured literacy has been rolling out really well. Students are enjoying learning
new digraphs and phonemes that help them decode words more confidently. We have already
seen improvements in their reading and comprehension skills, and it has been exciting to
watch their confidence grow.In mathematics, Room 2 has been introduced to the Numicon kit. The hands-on materials
have given students the opportunity to understand number concepts more clearly, and they
are finding maths both fun and meaningful. Each week, we also have a topic review to check
how much we have learned and to identify areas where we can keep improving.

Inquiry Learning – Technology and the Future
Our inquiry focus this term has been Technology and the Future. We have been exploring
how inventions of the past and present impact the way we live, work, and connect today—
and how these might shape the future. Following the SHARP inquiry model, we are currently
at Stage 4: Research, where students are developing small questions to guide their learning.
Room 2 is also excited to be working towards creating an e-learning hub, which will be
designed to support students with reading. It has been both fun and inspiring to see the
creative ideas our learners are coming up with.

Celebrating Culture – Tongan Language Week
This term, Room 2 had the privilege of leading an assembly performance. We proudly
presented a Tongan dance to celebrate Tongan Language Week. The students put in great
effort to learn the movements and presented extremely well.

Weighted Toy Workshop
One of the highlights of the term was working with the RTLBs to make weighted toys. This
activity taught our students the value of repurposing materials, while also building teamwork
and mindfulness. It was a hands-on session that combined creativity, textiles, and
cooperation—and Room 2 did a fantastic job.

Travel Wise Programme
This term, Room 2 has been part of the Travel wise Programme with Auckland Transport,
and we’ve had so much fun learning about being active travellers. We discovered why it’s
important to follow road rules, how biking, scootering, and walking help us stay healthy, and
how choosing active travel is good for the environment too. The best part is seeing so many
of our classmates now coming to school on scooters and bikes—it’s made us feel proud that
we are making healthier choices and helping our planet at the same time.

Overall, Term 3 has been a term full of learning, creativity, and growth. We look forward to
building on this momentum in Term 4 as Room 2 continues to shine.

Regards,
Mr Avi

Room 3

Term 3 has been a hype of activity, fun and hard work.

Inquiry has opened the eyes of modern and past technology and what technology holds for our future. We have been learning about the days of old, which was a completely different world from our world today. Wringer washing machines, fire ovens, and long drop toilets with no press button to flush everything away. Then another piece of writing is imagining that there are no devices in their homes. I enjoyed sharing back in the day the lack of technology in my home.

What does the future hold? Room 3 is studying flying cars in the very near future. They got very excited at the prospect of flying to school in a flying car.  Then there’s the solar car and the self driving car. Yes, Room 3 has been enthusiastic about future technology.

Another small and sweet highlight for room 3 are our little performances at the end of the day. Cultural dance is popular, a joke, a song, and reading their latest explanation writing piece.   I really enjoy watching them perform in some way as it has built up confidence and there is a lot of laughter and expression.

I look forward to my holiday as I will be going to Melbourne to visit my daughter but I will not be able to stop talking about my room 3 students. They are such a joyful and inquisitive lot and a delight to teach. Thank you parents for raising  wonderful children and enjoy your time with them. They grow up so fast.

Blessings Ms Bella

Term 3 Events

MRS LAURA’S FAREWELL ASSEMBLY

Our term started with saying farewell to someone who’s love, compassion, kindness and joy filled the office space and school. Mrs Laura was an instrumental part of our school and her presence has been sorely missed this term. Thank you Mrs Laura for loving our children like your own, for your warm smile and gentle heart and for showing us all what God’s love truly looks like. Thank you for all your hard work and for helping to raise the next generation of great leaders. May God’s blessings and favour continue to be over you and your family and over you as you venture in your next journey.

TUPU MAIA

Our Room One students were given the opportunity to participate in the Warriors Community Foundation programme called Tupu Maia. This Girls Only programme is aimed at increasing confidence and participation in sports, keeping active both physically and mentally and learning to enjoy sports and fitness. For five weeks, we had female mentors come to our school and take the Room One girls for 30mins every Monday. They learnt different ball skills, how to tackle correctly, how to catch high balls and to work together as a team. The mentors created a safe space for our girls to play, move, learn and enjoy sports. The programme ended with a League Fun Day at GO Media stadium. Our group along with girls from other schools around Auckland, participated in different rugby league based activites and we were even able to go on a tour around GO Media stadium and got to see the Warriors players up close and watch them train. We are grateful for these opportunities that allow our students to experience new things and help them to become more confident in themselves and their abilities.

After a good sleep, our racers where ready to go. The 10km race consisted of running on the road and then round the base of Mount Maunganui. Saturday morning our racers joined over 3000 participants to conquer race. Congratulations to Isabelle & Phil, Eli and Gideon, Lynell & Nigel and Raven & Hingatu who completed the 10km marathon and also to Shekinah who completed the trainings.

SUPA SHOWCASE

After practicing for 3 terms, our Monday After School  SUPA programme concluded with our annual SUPA SHOWCASE. Held once again at the Mangere Arts Centre, our parents, families and friends were presented with performances by our senior students in Hip Hop Dance, Guitar and Bucket Drums. Led by our amazing, talented tutors – Becks, Viliame and Kiko, our students showed us that hard work, perseverance and determination pays off. We are grateful for the continued support and tutoring from Saintz Up Performing Arts that allows our students an insight into the performing arts.
Well done to all our students who sang, danced and played an instrument. You should all be very proud of what you have achieved this year. Thank you to our MC for the night – Izzy and to all our families and friends that attended.
A HUGE thank you to Haddon’s House (Scott Whanau), Jireh Transport (Ah Loe Whanau) and Walk Creations (Fanueli Whanau) who fundraised, cooked, designed and supported our schoool by sponsoring the awesome t-shirts that our students and staff were wearing.
